Class: Mammalian Order: Carnivore Family: Otariidae Species: Ursinus The northern fur seal spends most of it’s time in the northern Pacific Ocean and spend their time breeding on the rocky coast line close to the edge of continental slope beaches. They also live form Southern California, up to North America coast, west along the Alaskan coastline, across the sub Artic Sea to the Russian coast and to the waters of northern Japan. Also most northern fur seals are from the southern hemisphere. The northern fur seal eats krill, squid, and fish. The fur seal’s feed mainly at night and dive to depths of 600 feet (180ml) in search of small schooling fish. Near the Pribilof Islands they feed on Pollock, Herring, and Capelin. There are 4 million fur seals. Pups are born from late November to early January. The babies weigh between 6-15 pounds at birth. They usually have 1 baby and 2 would be rarely. They make a group of animals called the pin heads. Fur seals live for about 15-25 years and it rarely live till 30 years old. Fur seals have 350,000 hairs per 1 square inch and that is (60,000cm 2). You can find northern fur seals in South Carolina, North American coast, West on the Alaskan coast lines, Artic Sea, Russian coast, and Northern Japan. They mostly live in hot and cold weather.
