Action Roofing has years of experience renovating and restoring terracotta flooring, and frequently, even the most neglected terracotta may be restored with outstanding results. The only effective technique to restore terracotta is to use the material in its natural state once again, let it dry, seal it with 2-4 coats of an impregnating penetrating sealer, and then apply the surface coating finish. Your terracotta can only be given a durable polish and stain resistance via this procedure. Visit us for more at actionroofing.com.au
Considerations for cleaning terracotta include the following:
Due to its propensity to discolor easily, terracotta tile requires additional attention when being laid. An installer’s sneaker left behind stains that lasted forever, as did a simple water drop.
Coating it before grouting will help prevent surface scratches, grout streaks, and grout residue from getting on the surface texture. While cleaning grout with water and a sponge, use a coating that is easily removable by water.
Avoid soaking the tile before installation.
A water drop can permanently discolor some of these tiles because they are so easily stained. If this is the case, the aforementioned advice does not apply because even the product could stain a delicate tile. The tile must be pre-sealed as the only option as result. To learn how to pre-seal effectively enough to outweigh its risks, make sure to read the section on pre-sealing.
Terracotta tile frequently corrodes, and this can happen even before it is installed. As a result of the stain risk, efflorescence can be treated, but doing so will darken the tile and it must be applied very evenly throughout the entire floor.
While the iron oxide pigments used in concrete products do not fade, grout colors are susceptible to fading. When properly sealed with the right sealer, the appearance of fading, which is actually caused by light efflorescence, can be stopped.
